Roadtrip...

Another quick update...with less than two weeks to go before the beginning of the school year, E, C and I made a quick trip to visit my parents...

Cousin Colin stopped by for a swim. Here, Clare is graciously sharing her childhood pool toy...

On the way home we stopped off at my brother's place to crash the local block party...

and see the baby!! (almost two months old now!)

I've been in a serious knitting funk...very little progress to report, but I did finally manage to finish the Honeycomb that I've been ignoring since last June.

Nice pattern, nice vest, although even with needlefree cabling, a vest full of two stitch cables knit up on 3.25 mm needles is pretty tedious going. I'm using a hanger as a model, but on me the vest just fits.

If I had to do it again, I would consider going up a size (cuz I tend to wear my sweaters sloppy big...) and made it a bit longer. Academic though...the reason I made this vest was because my size required 4 skeins of Elsbeth Lavold Silky Wool and that's exactly what I had in my stash. I had less than a ping-pong sized ball of yarn leftover, so I don't think I could have added even another 6 row repeat to the pattern if I wanted to. Oh, another "too-late" revelation...a couple Ravelry knitters are completing Honeycomb in the round. A bit of a timesaver maybe...certainly less seaming??

Speaking of seaming, I'm a good evening's work away from completing Hey Teach in a bright tangerine cotton. I hate seaming and fitting lacy sleeves into a lacy yoke is a bit more finicky than I usually attempt after 10pm.

Next up...Eloise by Jane Ellison to use up some Noro Blossom that I've had in the stash forever!

Quick Update!!

It's been a busy couple weeks...

First a week at Band Camp for Ellery and Clare (Clare is in the recorder group, Ellery played her clarinet...)

Then my friend Cari and her daughter Devon came up from California to visit with us for a week...

which necessitated trips to Canada's Wonderland and Mamma Mia...

And Ellery's birthday fell in the middle of all of this...note the most treasured of all gifts...Guitar Hero 3

Cari and I drove to Niagara Falls to meet up with Anne and Karen for Karen's birthday dinner...

And the morning after Cari and Dev flew back to California, we headed out to the cottage...

Ellery and Clare with cousins Alexander and Colin

A quick side trip to snuggle my newest nephew...

Then right back to the city for Stitch and Pitch (the Blue Jays won!)
